Pete Odgers is one of the youngest yet most established Sports Commentators in Sports Broadcasting.
Growing up in Devon and Cornwall Pete spent most of his early years trying to make it as a tennis player, before under-taking multiple coaching badges and becoming a Head Tennis coach in his early twenties. However, it was always Pete’s dream to pursue a career in Sports Commentary and Presenting. He believes these early experiences have helped him greatly in being a better Commentator.
Pete has worked for almost every media service that has broadcasted tennis over the last 10 years. As well as a vast number that produce Football. His lively engaging style, as well as coaching experience, has meant he has been in demand in the tennis commentary world over the last decade.
Pete has been part of Amazon Prime’s Commentary Team for the US Open, working alongside John McEnroe, Tim Henman, Daniela Hantuchova and Marion Bartoli.
Pete has been the youngest Lead Commentator for the BBC during the Wimbledon Championships. He has also regularly been the main Lead Commentator for the BBC for Great Britain’s various Fed Cup and Davis Cup ties.
Pete has been the main voice for the WTA world feed coverage. In 2014 Pete became the youngest ever Commentator to commentate on the final of the WTA’s flagship event, the WTA Finals. He has been in this role ever since, commentating alongside Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova and Monica Seles each year. Pete has also been a regular commentator on the ATP Tour world feed for the last 8 years, covering multiple Masters finals.
Pete was also the youngest ever person to commentate on a men’s final at the French Open. He has commentated on the final for each of the last two years for HBS who are the world feed providers. His voice has also provided highlights at the tournament for the last six years.
Pete was the face and voice of Patrick Mouratoglou’s new Ultimate Tennis Showdown. Pete presents, reports and commentates throughout the unique, innovative and revolutionary format where he has to talk to the player’s mid-match. During this, Pete is able to showcase his versatility as a jovial commentator who is able to interact in intense circumstances with the player’s in different instant scenarios. It is a very different way of commentating compared to the more serious world feed.
Pete has also been a regular Commentator and Presenter for British and International Eurosport, working on the Australian Open, French Open and the US Open, as well as multiple Tour events including the Laver Cup.
Between 2015-18 Pete was also part of BT Sport’s WTA commentary team.
Talksport 2, ATP Tennis Radio, US Open Radio and Roland Garros Radio are various radio stations where you will also have heard Pete’s voice. He also produces various podcasts for ATP Tennis Radio and UTS, interviewing multiple tennis stars.
Pete is also passionate about all sports. He is a multiple sports commentator for OBS (Olympic Broadcast Station), and was part of OBS’s commentary team for both the 2016 Rio Olympics and Paralympics as well as the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. Pete commentated on eight different sports at these various games. He will also be part of the delayed Tokyo 2021 Olympics team.
Pete had a hectic schedule for 2022, commentating all over the world for the WTA and ATP.
Pete continues to commentate the world over working for the WTA, ATP and Amazon in 2022 and ending his year commentating for the WTA Finals in Guadalajara Mexico.
When not commentating, Pete is generally watching more sport. He is a huge Premier League fan, as well as NFL, rugby (especially Exeter Chiefs), cricket, golf and boxing. Away from sport, Pete has a politics degree (as well as a Master’s degree in Broadcast Journalism), and is very interested in current affairs. Over the last few years Pete has developed more of a passion in the human mind, researching in his spare time social, evolutionary and sports psychology.
