Karthi Gnanasegaram

Karthi is an experienced and versatile presenter and reporter well known to UK and global audiences for her work in sport over the last ten years. 

 

Karthi is a television and radio sports presenter for several of the BBC’s flagship shows: BBC Radio4’s Today programme, the BBC One Ten o’clock News, BBC Radio2’s Breakfast Show and has worked as a reporter on the BBC’s coverage of Wimbledon, the Olympics, Match of the Day, Football Focus, the Ryder Cup and the Ashes. 

In 2024 she reported live from around the world for the Sky Sports Tennis channel across the US Open, ATP and WTA Tours and covered the Paris Olympics with Discovery+. 

Karthi is the on court interviewer with the players at Wimbledon, Queen’s, Eastbourne and the Dubai Tennis Championships.  

She was a presenter and reporter for Amazon Prime Video’s tennis coverage and was one of the few British journalists in New York when Emma Raducanu won the US Open in 2021. 

Karthi has presented, reported and been a commentator on a variety of sports at the London 2012, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympics and she has been the world feed commentator on the Opening and Closing ceremonies at Olympics and Commonwealth Games.

She presented shows for IMG’s Premier League channel for 10 years and as well as for Amazon Prime Video’s live Premier League coverage. 

She presents classical music shows on Classic FM and has hosted live events for the Royal Opera House.

Her “Perfect Pitch” series on Classic FM explores the links between sport and classical music with guests including Sir Andy Murray, Ian Wright, Sir Andrew Strauss and the late Shane Warne. 

As a regular host of conferences and live events, Karthi is a warm, friendly, engaging and professional presence and an excellent interviewer. 

Away from sport, Karthi hosted the United Nations General Assembly live channel to mark the UN’s 75th anniversary year. She also presented the United Nations live coverage of the United States Presidential Inauguration in 2021 and has hosted the United Nations Goals House Summit on several occasions. 

She recently played “herself” in the British comedy drama film, Fisherman’s Friends: One and All

 

Karthi read Classics at Cambridge University but her passion for sports journalism took hold while she was still at school, setting up the King Edward’s school newspaper while also working for local radio stations and newspapers.

 

She played violin and piano to Grade 8, toured with various orchestras and represented Cambridge University at tennis and badminton but is now obsessed with lowering her golf handicap.
